Air conditioners tend to break at the start of summer

Summer is here and the heat is hitting us hard. It always seems to sneak up out of nowhere in Las Vegas. One day, the weather is in the low 80s with a nice breeze. All of a sudden, the sun smacks you in the face. What does this mean for your air conditioner? Well, you haven’t used it for a few months. Now you are blasting your air conditioner 24 hours a day. This is when air conditioners tend to break.

Air conditioners are resting for four or five months. The pumps are at rest. Everything is still. Seemingly out of nowhere, it gets turned on and has to work hard to cool down your home. The air conditioner has to overwork itself for the first few weeks it is being used. The electrical components may have gotten a little rusty during the months off.

In other cities it is not as bad for the air conditioners. Most cities don’t exceed double digits. The 110 degree weather that Las Vegas residents suffer can be detrimental for air conditioners. Sure, they are designed to cool down even the hottest homes, but it’s hard for them to last in such extreme heat. The electrical components simply cannot withstand the high temperatures.

The high temperature, in addition to not being used for months, is a recipe for disaster. The air conditioner just can’t work hard enough to produce results. This is why many people will have to replace their air conditioners at the beginning of summer.

There isn’t much to do to prevent it from occurring. At the start of summer when you first turn your air conditioner on, don’t put it down too low. Ease into the summer. This can warm up the electrical components so they shouldn’t break as easily once the weather becomes unbearable.

Many workers recommend having back up fans in the house. You can try your best to prevent it from breaking. Sometimes there is nothing you can do. Be prepared and have multiple fans in your house. It is best to stay somewhere cool while your air conditioner is being fixed. There is no reason to suffer more than you have to. Typically, it should only take about a day. If your air conditioner breaks on a Monday, it should be up and running by the end of the day on Tuesday. If you have pets or kids, don’t leave them in the house while the air conditioner is broken.
