There are a few ways that your home can affect your health. More than a few, actually. But one that gets overlooked a lot is air quality, and there are a lot of easy things that you can do to improve the air quality in your home. Here are a few to try out:
- Keep your floors clean. Vacuum regularly, sweep and mop. Chemicals and allergens accumulate in dust, and it can stay around for years. Vacuuming and sweeping helps to suck those out of your carpet and off your floors. Mopping gets the particles that sweeping leaves behind.
- No smoking! This one speaks for itself.
- Avoid synthetic fragrances. While tempting, they introduce a number of chemicals into the air, detracting from your air quality. For a more natural fragrance, try putting the peel of a lemon or an orange down the garbage disposal.
- Humidity. Keep the humidity in your house around 30-50%. This will help control dust mites, mold and other allergens. You can use a dehumidifier or humidifier, if needed.
