Cleaning Your Shower Head

Is your shower head performing like you need it to? If you find that it takes you longer than usual to rinse the soap off your body and the shampoo out of your hair, it can be frustrating. Most likely, the cause is your shower head and the fix is a simple one: either clean or replace your shower head.

CLEANING YOUR SHOWER HEAD

Over time, your shower head develops a build up of mineral deposits and/or lime. As the deposits build up, the holes in the shower head (from which the water comes out) get smaller and smaller, resulting in a weaker and weaker stream of water. You can clean your shower head by unscrewing it from the neck (the metal part that goes into the wall) and soaking the head in CLR or another lime and mineral remover. After it soaks, use an old toothbrush and a toothpick to loosen and remove any mineral deposits that stayed behind—they will appear whitish and will be easy to see against the metal finish of the shower head.
