Yesterday we discussed the dangers of carbon monoxide. This colorless, odorless gas can make you sick and eventually cause death if it isn’t remedied. With the following two tips, you can prevent CO poisoning altogether.
Inspect and maintain your appliances.
Preventive maintenance is the best thing you can do to prevent CO poisoning. Get any appliance that burns gas, oil, or coal inspected at least once a year by a professional. This will significantly increase your chances of totally preventing a carbon monoxide leak. At the very least, you’ll be able to catch one in the early stages so no one in your home is hurt.
Maintain a fail safe.
Unfortunately, all the preventive maintenance in the world can’t protect us from accidental breakage caused by unknown stressors on the unit. In the event something happens to your furnace or water heater that you aren’t aware of, make sure your family is protected no matter what.
The best way to do this is with a carbon monoxide detector. If you don’t have one, get one installed immediately. If you do have one, check the batteries every couple of months. A properly functioning CO detector can be the difference between life and death for you and your family.
If you can’t recall the last time you had your furnace inspected, the time is now. What looks like the flu or a bad stretch of migraines can actually be symptoms of CO Poisoning. Contact JMAC Heating & Air today at 702.227.5622 to schedule an appointment.
