Tips of the Trade

If your drain is draining slowly, if it is making gurgling noises or giving you any indication there may be a clog—no matter how small—you should take action right away. A small clog can lead to a complete blockage, which can lead to burst pipes or bathrooms that are out of commission. Here are some quick tricks to try on your own but don’t hesitate to call JMAC Plumbing and Air Conditioning—your Las Vegas air conditioning and plumbing specialists—to address the problem for you:

Boiling water.

It may sound simple, but sometimes something as simple as boiling water can clear a small clog. Fill your tea kettle as full as it allows and let it boil the water. Slowly pour the boiling water down the drain, in three separate stages, waiting at least a minute or two between pours. If the clog persists, give us a call!

Salt and baking soda.

Mix ½ cup of table salt with ½ cup of baking soda and pour down the drain. Let it sit for 10-20 minutes, and then pour boiling water down the drain. The mixture of the salt, baking soda and boiling water will create a chemical reaction that will dissolve some clogs, without damaging your pipes. If the clog persists, give us a call!

Dish detergent.

If you have any reason to believe the clog may be related to grease, pour ¼ cup of dish detergent down the drain. It will act as a lubricant and will help to break up those greasy blockages. Follow it with boiling water. If the clog persists, give us a call!
