NV Energy Rebates for HVAC and Heat Pumps in Las Vegas

NV Energy runs Cool Share, smart thermostat, and high-efficiency HVAC rebates that change every program year. Here is what currently qualifies, how stacking works with federal credits, and what trips homeowners up at claim time.

Quick answer
  • NV Energy's Cool Share program pays a signing bonus plus monthly bill credits when you let them cycle your AC during peak summer events.
  • Smart thermostat rebates are typically $100 to $200 instant at install, with extra credits for enrolling in Cool Share.
  • High-efficiency heat pump rebates currently run up to $1,500 to $2,000 depending on equipment tier and SEER2 rating.
  • ENERGY STAR central AC and heat pumps qualify for smaller rebates that stack with federal 25C tax credits.
  • Exact amounts and program rules change every program year, so confirm current values at nvenergy.com/save-with-rebates before signing.
Section 01

What NV Energy rebates exist for HVAC right now

NV Energy runs several distinct rebate programs that touch HVAC and water heating, and they update them every program year. The most well-known is Cool Share, the peak-demand response program. When you sign up, NV Energy installs a smart thermostat or connects to one you already own, and they earn the right to cycle your AC compressor briefly during summer demand events. In exchange you get a signing bonus and bill credits every month from June through September. The program does not let your house overheat. Cycling typically lasts a few minutes at a time on the hottest weekday afternoons, and you can override any event by changing your thermostat manually. Beyond Cool Share, NV Energy offers instant rebates at install for qualifying smart thermostats, currently in the $100 to $200 range depending on model and contractor. High-efficiency central AC and heat pumps that meet specific SEER2 and HSPF2 thresholds qualify for larger rebates, typically up to $1,500 to $2,000 for top-tier equipment. ENERGY STAR water heaters, heat pump water heaters, and pool pumps each have their own programs. The catch is that program rules and dollar amounts change every year, sometimes mid-year if funding runs out. Tier thresholds tighten as efficiency standards improve, and some rebates require pre-approval before installation. Before you sign a quote, pull up nvenergy.com/save-with-rebates, confirm what is currently funded, and make sure your contractor is on the approved trade ally list. We are listed there as JMAC Plumbing and Air Conditioning, and we handle the paperwork on every install where rebates apply.

Section 02

How to actually claim the rebate (and what trips homeowners up)

The rebate process looks simple on paper and gets complicated in practice. Some rebates are instant. Your contractor deducts the rebate amount off the invoice and files for reimbursement with NV Energy directly. Smart thermostats and most ENERGY STAR equipment work this way. Other rebates, especially the larger heat pump and central AC tiers, require pre-approval before work begins, mailing in or uploading an application with the AHRI certificate, model and serial numbers, and proof of installation by an approved trade ally. Three things consistently trip homeowners up. First, the equipment has to meet the exact SEER2 and HSPF2 numbers listed in the current program year. A unit that qualified last year might not qualify this year because tiers move. Second, the contractor matters. If your installer is not a registered NV Energy trade ally for that program, the rebate gets denied even if the equipment is correct. Third, paperwork timelines are unforgiving. Most rebates require submission within 60 to 90 days of install. Miss that window and the money is gone. The smart move is to ask for the rebate-eligible equipment quote up front, in writing, with the model number and AHRI certificate referenced. A reputable contractor will tell you straight whether the equipment qualifies, what the current dollar amount is, and whether they will handle the paperwork or you will. We file every NV Energy rebate application for you when we install. We have the trade ally credentials and the paperwork rhythm to keep the numbers from leaking.

Section 03

Stacking utility rebates with federal tax credits

The biggest savings come from combining NV Energy rebates with the federal 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit. These are two separate programs from two separate sources, and they do not cancel each other out. A qualifying heat pump install can earn you a $1,500 to $2,000 NV Energy rebate at install and a separate $2,000 federal tax credit when you file your taxes the following spring. That is real four-digit money on a single project, on equipment that already pays you back through lower bills. The rules are not identical. NV Energy cares about its own SEER2 and HSPF2 thresholds. The federal 25C credit references CEE (Consortium for Energy Efficiency) tiers, which often line up but not always. Always ask whether the equipment qualifies for both programs separately. The same heat pump that triggers a big utility rebate may or may not hit the federal heat pump credit tier, depending on the model. We provide a written summary at quote time showing the NV Energy rebate amount, whether the unit qualifies for federal 25C, and the estimated stacked savings. One last thing to know. The federal credit resets every January, and the heat pump cap of $2,000 is independent of the $1,200 cap on other energy improvements. That means a heat pump installed in December and a new water heater installed in January could both earn full credits in different tax years. If you are planning a multi-step efficiency project, timing matters as much as equipment choice.
