HAPPY NEW YEAR HOME RESOLUTION MAINTENANCE SOLUTIONS

NEW YEAR HOME RESOLUTION

Most of us have started a New Year with resolutions. It’s great to set goals, make changes, and make better choices for a healthier YOU, but what about your home? Your home is your biggest investment and needs to be cared for as well. The New Year is a great time to make some New Year Home Resolutions focused on caring for your home throughout the year.

We know that many resolutions are kicked to the curb well before you hit set goals. However, taking care of your home and setting realistic plans to ensure your home gets the TLC it needs can save you time and money! We’ve put together some preventative and beneficial ways to give your home some care this New Year.

  1. CHANGE YOUR AIR FILTERS.

Grab your calendar/smartphone and schedule to change your air filters three to four times a year. Here’s a link to order the size and quality you prefer: FILTERS. Order in bulk and/or on auto-ship to have what you need, when you need it. Not only does your filter improve the quality of the air you breathe, but it also helps to keep your HVAC unit working properly.

  2. CLEAN OUT YOUR DRYER DUCT.

Most of us know how important it is to clean out the dryer lint trap filter before each load. But it doesn’t catch it all. Not only is accumulated debris a fire hazard, but it also affects the efficiency of your clothes dryer. Cleaning out your dryer duct is really not hard to do and even the most unskilled homeowner can do it. Here are instructions to keep your dryer running efficiently: CLEAN DUCT

  3. SCHEDULE MAINTENANCE ON YOUR HVAC SYSTEM.

We at JMAC Plumbing and AIR recommend having your HVAC units scheduled for preventative maintenance twice a year. The best times are in the Spring and Fall, right before our units get the most usage. Give us a call today to get those scheduled so your HVACsystem will be ready for the next season!

  4. REPLACE BATTERIES IN YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS.

I’m not sure why, but it seems like batteries go out in smoke detectors during the dead of night! I’m sure you’ve experienced this obtrusive beeping, waking you from a deep sleep. Get ahead of it and change those batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors NOW. Don’t wait until you hear that “chirping” sound, which means it’s time to change batteries. Also, because alarm sensors wear out, replace each alarm at least every 10 years.

  5. FLUSH YOUR WATER HEATER.

When was the last time you flushed out your water heater? Your water heater, like almost everything mechanical in your home, needs routine maintenance to keep it operating at its best. One often neglected task is flushing your tank to get rid of the sediment that builds up inside. Allowing this sediment to build up hinders the heater’s ability to do its job efficiently, shortens the life of your water heater, and costs you more money and more headaches in the future. Manufacturers recommend flushing water heaters (tanks and tankless) once a year. The professionals at JMAC Plumbing and Air know how important this maintenance isand would be happy to schedule your water heater flush today.

Maintaining your home is something that you need to keep on top of to ensure the safety, health, and efficiency of you and your family. The above maintenance items are just a few ways to be proactive and to keep you from potentially expensive repairs or replacements. If you are the handy type and love doing the maintenance on your own, that is fantastic!
